CDPQ provides support to the swine sector in relation to its innovation objectives, improving competitiveness and the differentiation of pork products in the marketplace. To this end, a team of experts in genetics provides input in the development of strategies and tools focusing on improving the genetic potential of swine herds.

Some of our achievements in this area
  • Development of the genetic values of various traits of economic merit in breeding animals (e.g. number of teats, piglet survival, intramuscular fat, etc.)
  • Development of selection indexes in order to more effectively select breeding stock with the best genetic potential
  • Study and updating of the economic values of genetic traits used in selection
  • Genomics research on the genetic improvement of swine
