Six drinking systems tested in the finishing phase: the results!

October 18, 2018
Several drinking systems for finisher pigs are available on the market, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Faced with a multitude of options, two questions often stand out:
  • What is their impact on the growth performance of my pigs?
  • Do they waste a lot of water? (wastage resulting in additional manure management costs)
In order to answer these questions, the CDPQ team, in collaboration with IRDA, tested six watering systems, namely:
  • The conventional nipple
  • The bite ball nipple
  • The conventional water bowl
  • The conventional water bowl with a lid
  • The urinal bowl
  • The Suevia bowl
We also led the project in order to review the following questions: "What is the environmental and economic impact of each system? And "Do they have an impact on the final composition of pig carcasses? "
