Objectives

Study the rationale or scientific basis that led to the development of standards for space allowances contained in the Canadian Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Pigs, and in the European legislation (a proposal to amend the current standards and to further increase the space to be provided). Quantify the impact that the systematic adoption of such standards might have on the techno-economic performances and welfare of finisher pigs in Quebec.
